Treemendous Cooler Cities

It's a tree. 🌳
MedellĂn, Colombia, offers a powerful example of what happens when cities treat nature as infrastructure.
Through its Green Corridors initiative, the city transformed roads, riverbanks, and transport corridors with millions of plants and hundreds of thousands of trees.
The result?
Cooler streets.
More shade.
More biodiversity.
Better air quality.
And more comfortable public spaces.
Trees cool cities in a remarkably simple way.
They block solar radiation and release water vapor through evapotranspiration, helping lower surrounding temperatures.
Unlike an air conditioner, they don't need electricity to provide these benefits.
And unlike concrete infrastructure, they become more valuable as they grow.
That's the bigger idea.
Climate adaptation doesn't always require more technology.
Sometimes it requires redesigning our cities around living systems.
The question for urban planners isn't just:"How do we cool this city?\
"It's:"How can we design a city that naturally stays cooler?"
Because the cities of the future will need more than smart buildings.
They'll need healthy urban ecosystems.
Sometimes the smartest climate infrastructure is already growing above our heads. 🌍🌳

I want to build a park on Aurora Ave. N between Seattle Center and Green Lake. I like the idea of taking the most car centric corridor with the most pollution and heat creation and turning that corridor into a green cool scene. Our own Highline Park that flourishes along 6.2 miles between two great parks in Seattle.
Create social housing and density in Lower Queen Anne, and where the current highway intersects with Fremont, Wallingford and Green Lake/Greenwood.
Imagine a great green city!
