Pep Guardiola has condemned conflicts around the world including the genocide in Palestine, war in Ukraine and civil war in Sudan in a heartfelt statement. He asked how anyone could defend the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by ICE in Minnesota and said humanity is “better than ever in terms of possibilities … but it’s still right not we kill each other - for what?”

The Manchester City manager made the comments at a press conference ahead of the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle. Guardiola's comments on Sudan will have been noted by his boss Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al-Nahyan, Manchester City's owner and vice president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In November, Jeremy Corbyn called on the UK government to suspend arms sales to the UAE, given its alleged support for the Rapid Support Forces, who stand accused of genocide and ethnic cleansing in Sudan. Guardiola has become increasingly outspoken recently.

Last week, he missed his usual press conference to make a speech at the Palau Sant Jordi sports arena in Barcelona in support of the Act x Palestine concert.
