Fellow traveler,

I grew up in the civil rights and anti war movement. These movements have helped me see that the struggle for poor people, the struggle for Black, Brown, citizen and immigrant is our struggle.

And to hold these truths to be self evident here in America the beautiful, that all men and women are created equal is a key teaching of nonviolence by Martin Luther King Jr.

What Coretta Scott King says here about violence is written in the kindest way for us all to remember the true costs of capitalist system we are in, a system that creates conditions for fascism, billionaires that plague our society and run a private government without our consent.

When the news stories are about immigrants, trans and the other myriad 1% in our country, remember there is a trillion a year spent to keep you and I fighting each other instead of taxing wealth workers created and stolen by the rich.

At what cost?

Coretta Scott King spells out the ruthless nature of our capitalist society by reminding us

Martin marched and organized on the shoulders of giants, and he created alliances with people fighting the madness of war, the waste of life and limb and damage to our precious ecosystems.

He befriended a favorite teacher of mine, Thich Nhat Hanh. Outside of my own parents, sisters and family growing up, Martin and Thich Nhat Hanh shaped my vision and values, my daily devotions serving others and beliefs about the conditions of happiness.
